About

Curious. Detailed. Driven.

My name is Josh Gorero. I’m a content strategist, with a Masters Degree in Interactive Media and Communications. Focused on advocacy, diversity, and inclusion, I see digital platforms as places that are ripe for change – encouraging more empowerment, awareness, and education.

Driven to inspire others, I use my voice to raise important topics and issues, and I have developed projects that helped others have their voices heard. In fact, I organized a successful Get-Out-To-Vote campaign initiative at my university. As a result of my work, there was more engagement, more interest, and less confusion on how to register and vote.

On a personal note, I am an avid cook as well as an amateur photographer, capturing all my trips, foods, and moments that I experience and enjoy.

My Defining Story

A seemingly mundane act can reveal so much about you and life in general.

Stop Asian Hate Rally in Hartford, CT (2021)

Walking around the streets of New Haven, I encountered an older woman asking for money while holding her granddaughter on her lap. Confused and not wanting to engage with strangers, I lied, told them that I didn’t have any money, and walked pass. Suddenly, feeling guilty, I pulled out my wallet to see the cash I did have. I turned around and handed them five dollars and went about my way.

Later that day, I visited the Yale Bookstore. As I was leaving the store, I saw the granddaughter excitedly holding a book, hurriedly walking up to her grandma, who was standing by the checkout. The grandmother and I looked at one another, and as she walked towards me, it clicked as to why she was approaching me.

With a gentle yet croaky voice she said, “Thank you for helping my granddaughter out. Because of your help, she can get the math book she needs to help her learn more. Thank you, again.”

With such a brief encounter, my immediate response was to smile, but, I began to search within myself and came to new realizations. The littlest things people can do can have significant impacts on others. Be honest and seek to help others despite not being comfortable to do so. Use your resources, knowledge, and skills to help and serve others.

These are the lessons I learned about life that guide me every day. During my undergraduate years, I began finding ways to incorporate these lessons into all that I learn and do, within my academic and career pursuits. The lessons helped me find my voice to speak up and uplift those who want their voices heard. With my interests in technology and digital platforms I began seeking creative, approachable ways for advocacy and education.

We all can leave an impact in this world in some way, raising awareness to issues that are important to us. That is what I seek to do: create platforms and strategies that are meant to spur growth and change.
